An Innovative Concept For Redeveloping The Potomac Power Plant Property in Alexandria, VA
On January 21, the Alexandria City Council passed a revised small area waterfront plan on a 5-2 vote with some amendments. To read the final report and amendments, please click here.
The plan, as approved, contained an amendment to develop a separate small area plan for the site of the Potomac River Generating Station (PDF). Although the amendment did not say when this additional planning process would begin, it described the power plant site as an open space priority for the city and noted the plant’s anticipated closing date as October 2012.
Prior to the vote, Alexandria Mayor William Euille and American Clean Skies Foundation CEO Greg Staple exchanged correspondence on the PRGS site and the timetable for rezoning the property. To view their correspondence, please click here (PDF).
